MISSION

Project Teammates Matter exists to put perspective back into sports by promoting TEAM in school communities throughout the country.

In 2005, Alan Williams was introduced as the keynote speaker at the Lighthouse Conference in Greensboro, North Carolina—a speakers’ series that encourages character development within high school and junior high students from eight different academies and schools, both public and private.

Even though this was his first speaking engagement, the response of the students at this conference was more than enough inspiration for Alan to start Teammates First—a series of programs for student-athletes, coaches, and parents.   We believe that student-athletes are becoming increasingly cynical of programs that are all about the speaker and the ‘good old days’.  What about others—what about relationships?  What about the people that made the journey worthwhile?  Today, Teammates First is now known as Project Teammates Matter and over the past four years, nearly 200,000 people in 17 states have participated in various programs and seminars.
